Street Department

Does the Village pickup landscape waste?

Yes.  The Village picks up small limbs, sticks, and other forms of landscape waste such as evergreen clippings, leaves and sweet gum balls on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, weathering permitting.  Small items must be placed in paper sacks for removal by Village employees.  All forms of landscape waste is to be left curbside, not out in the street.  No grass clippings will be picked up by the Village.  However, the Great Pumpkin Patch south of Arthur will gladly accept grass clippings and leaves.

What are the acceptable forms of landscape waste to be picked up?

Village of Arthur employees will pick up small limbs and sticks curbside.  Please do not leave your limbs out in the street.  Limbs must be of the size 1 (one) man can easily handle.

 

Other landscape waste will be picked up such as evergreen clippings, fine sticks, leaves and sweet gum balls.  These items must be placed in a paper sack or paper bag for removal by the Village and left curbside.  No grass clippings will be picked up by the Village.  However, the Great Pumpkin Patch south of Arthur will gladly accept grass clippings and leaves.

What day is limb and landscape waste picked up?

Limb and landscape waste is picked up on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, weather permitting.

Where do I put my landscape waste to be picked up?

All limbs and landscape waste are to be left curbside for Village employees to pick up.  Please do not leave your limbs and paper bags with landscape waste inside out in the street.

Does the Village give away free mulch?

No.  The Village does not have any mulch to give away or sell.

Does the Village trim or remove trees?

The Village of Arthur does not trim or remove trees unless the tree is on the boulevard and is a hazard to traffic control signs, roadway visibility, or hangs down over a sidewalk.  The Village of Arthur does not trim or remove trees on private property.  For more information regarding this policy, please contact the Street Department at (217) 543-2813 or the Village Office at (217) 543-2927.

When are the streets cleaned?

Village streets are swept in the early morning hours on Monday and Friday.  No oiled and rocked streets are swept.  Additional street sweeping is done on an as needed basis.

How do I report a pothole?

Please report any potholes in the Village roads to the Street Department at (217) 543-2813 or to the Village Office at (217) 543-2927 so that they may be repaired.

Who is responsible maintaining the alleys?

Alleys are maintained by the Village of Arthur Street Department.  However, if a private contractor or utility company alters the condition of the alley, they are responsible for repairing the alley back to its original condition before the alteration.  If you have a concern about the maintenance of an alley, please contact the Street Department at (217) 543-2813 or the Village Office at (217) 543-2927.

How do I get my sidewalk replaced?

Sidewalks are replaced as needed with a priority placed on sidewalks with high foot traffic areas replaced first.  Additional sidewalk replacement requests are taken and sidewalks are repaired as funding allows.  The cost of the concrete used is provided by the Village.  The labor cost for the additional sidewalk replacement request is the responsibility of the property owner.

 

All sidewalk requests must be approved in advance by the Village Board.  To make a sidewalk replacement request, please contact the Street Department at (217) 543-2813 or the Village Office at (217) 543-2927.

Does the Village provide barricades and cones for private use?

Yes.  The Village has barricades and cones for private use when needed to help with traffic control and other special events.  For example, both barricades and cones could be used to block a street or reserve parking spaces for an auction, funeral services, or wedding ceremony.  Barricades and cones may be used to help with parking during festivals, fairs, and other special events.

 

To request barricades and cones, please contact the Street Department at (217) 543-2813 or the Village Office at (217) 543-2927.  Barricades and cones are not to be removed or taken from the Street Department without prior authorization.

Who do I call if my street light is out?

You may call the Village Office at 543-2927 to report a street light out.  Please give the street location where the light is located.

If I find color-coded flags, stakes or paint in my yard, who left them and what do they mean?
