Welcome to the Village of Arthur Illinois

Services and Departments

Streets & Sanitation

The Village of Arthur's Street Department oversees the maintenance and upkeep of our village streets, curbs, and sidewalks.  Having streets oiled and rocked is just one of the annual responsibilities this department coordinates.  In addition, streets are also patched throughout the year.  Village streets are cleaned on a regular basis by our personnel and are usually cleaned in the early morning hours.  Curbs and parking spaces are painted in the downtown area.  Sidewalks are replaced with a priority on the most used sidewalks first.  In the winter, this department plows snow and spreads salt in order to make travel on our streets safer.  The Street Department is also responsible to the maintenance and repair of storm drains.

Another service this department provides is limb and landscape removal.  This service is provided to residents year round on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, weather permitting.

Our Street Department is instrumental

Storm Smith and Wes Yoder picking up landscape waste in community involvement and beautification.  They are proud to hang the American Flags on the poles downtown on Vine Street.  The seasonal banners on the poles downtown are also hung by this department.  They hang the military personnel signs on wood poles for the Arthur American Legion Auxiliary.  Our Street Department works together with the Arthur Area Association of Commerce to help promote an inviting atmosphere to our village, both to our residents and our guests alike.  They water the hanging flower baskets in the downtown area, they take extra care and pride in cleaning the areas where festival and special events are to be held, they also setup extra benches and help provide extra traffic measures during these times also.  They are always eager to lend a helping hand.
